The Impact

Ken Ucci lost his son, Michael, in a car crash on January 27, 2007. The car, driven by Michael’s close friend, Bret Clifton, collided at high speed with a traffic light pole in front of West High School in Tracy, California. Michael was killed, and the three others in the car were injured, including Bret, who lost both his legs.

Exactly one month after the crash, a grieving Ken saw a television broadcast about a man in Florida who had lost his wife and daughter in a car crash caused by a speeding teen. That man was Bruce Murakami, and what Ken saw that day began a process of healing and transformation. Today, Ucci has established a local chapter of Safe Teen Driver, and he and Bret, as well as Bret's family, devote themselves to talking, teaching and urging young drivers to drive responsibly.
