Safe Teen Driver Teaches Teens and Saves Lives
In November 1998, Bruce Murakami lost his wife and daughter in a fiery car crash caused by a teen driver who was street racing. The teen, Justin Cabezas, confessed and faced a 30-year sentence for killing Bruce's family. But instead of pushing to send Justin to prison for three decades, Bruce made an amazing decision. He forgave the teenager and asked the judge to sentence him to house arrest and community service in a new nonprofit that Bruce was developing—Safe Teen Driver. Today, as part of Safe Teen Driver, Bruce and Justin give life- changing presentations to young drivers throughout the country— presentations that show the devastating consequences of a single, bad choice on the road.To date, Safe Teen Driver has reached tens of thousands of teenagers with their message of responsi- bility behind the wheel of a car and in life.
