Another home
run for the CARS program was held on October 28th
2006 at Gaither High School in Tampa, Florida. This
event’s theme was “Buckle up”. With
the recent teen deaths due to lack of seatbelt use
Safe Teen Driver and Tampa PD CARS decided it was
time to send an extra harsh in your face message to
our teen drivers. This event had two special guests,
the Marchetti’s who are the parents of Katie
Marchetti who died earlier this year after being tossed
out of a car that crashed and the Clark’s parents
of Tyler Clark who was also killed last month in a
crash that involved a lack of seatbelt use. Both families
shared their loss with the nearly 200 plus crowd that
day. It was a sobering message and one that we plan
to continue to hit hard on.
The weather co-operated as
usual (This is Florida) and the crowd turnout was
the largest ever for our monthly events. We were blessed
with a strong showing of the Tampa Vintage car club
who’s members proudly displayed their fine machines
along with sharing their car show know how and knowledge
with the high school kids. Gaither High School won
the trophy for the best club attendance; Alonso High
School was a very close second.
Our next event is on December
9th 2006 (school to be announced shortly) which is
our Toys for Tot’s collection event. Also on
January 6th 2007 we will be holding our battle of
the bay event at Quaker Steak and Lube on 49th St.
in Pinellas County. This will be huge with lots of
door prizes and special giveaways….be sure to
